RecipeBot Help Center — Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about RecipeBot's features, from recipe generation to meal planning and billing.
Getting Started
What is RecipeBot?
RecipeBot is an recipe platform that helps you cook smarter. Tell it what ingredients you have, and it instantly generates a personalized recipe just for you. You can also plan meals, scan pantry photos, digitize recipe cards, build grocery lists, and track your nutrition — all in one place.
Is RecipeBot free to use?
Yes! RecipeBot has a free plan that lets you generate up to 5 recipes per day, save recipes, and share with the community. No credit card required. Paid plans (Starter, Pro, Premium) unlock higher limits and advanced features like meal planning, the pantry scanner, and photo to recipe.
How do I create an account?
Click Get Started on the homepage and enter your email address and a password. You can also sign in with Google. Once you're in, you can start generating recipes immediately — no additional setup required.
Do I need to know how to cook to use RecipeBot?
Not at all. Filter recipes by difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard), set your cooking time preference, and get step-by-step instructions in plain language. The Cooking Assistant can answer any question while you cook.
What devices does RecipeBot work on?
RecipeBot works in any modern web browser on desktop, tablet, or mobile. No app download required — just visit recipebot.com and sign in.
Recipe Generator
How does the recipe generator work?
Enter a list of ingredients you have on hand, set any preferences (dietary restrictions, cuisine, cooking time, difficulty), and click Generate. RecipeBot creates a complete original recipe with exact measurements, step-by-step instructions, and nutritional information.
Can I generate a recipe without logging in?
Yes — you can try a preview recipe on the homepage without an account. To see the full recipe, save it, or generate more, you'll need a free account.
What dietary restrictions does RecipeBot support?
RecipeBot supports vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, keto, paleo, low-carb, low-sodium, nut-free, halal, and kosher. Set your restrictions once in your profile and every recipe will comply automatically.
Can I modify a generated recipe?
Yes. Use the Smart Modification feature (Pro and above) to ask RecipeBot to swap ingredients, adjust serving size, change spice level, reduce calories, or almost any other change.
How many recipes can I generate per day?
Free: 5/day. Starter ($9/mo): 10/day. Pro ($19/mo): 25/day. Premium ($39/mo): 60/day. The counter resets daily at midnight UTC. All paid plans include a 30-day free trial.
Can I make a recipe public?
Yes. Toggle a recipe to Public when saving and it appears in the community feed. Other users can discover, save, and rate it. Switch back to private at any time from the recipe detail page.
Photo to Recipe
What is the Photo to Recipe feature?
Photo to Recipe (Premium) lets you photograph any physical recipe — cookbook, magazine, index card, or handwritten note — and instantly convert it into a structured digital recipe. RecipeBot reads the image, extracts ingredients and instructions, and formats them cleanly.
What kinds of photos work best?
Clear, well-lit, straight-on photos with the full recipe text visible. Handwritten recipes work too as long as the handwriting is legible. Avoid heavy shadows, extreme angles, or blur.
Can it read recipes in other languages?
Photo to Recipe works best with English but can handle many other languages. Output is always in English. Accuracy may vary for less common languages or very stylized fonts.
How many photo scans can I do per day?
Premium: 20/day. Pro: 8/day. Starter: 4/day. Resets daily at midnight UTC.
Can I edit the recipe after scanning?
Yes. Edit any field before saving — adjust ingredient amounts, fix a misread step, or add notes. The recipe is fully yours once it's in your collection.
Pantry Scanner
What is the Pantry Scanner?
The Smart Pantry Scanner (Premium) uses your device camera to identify ingredients in your fridge or pantry. Point your camera at your shelves, RecipeBot detects each item, then instantly suggests recipes you can make with what you have. No manual entry needed.
How accurate is the pantry scanner?
Highly accurate for common packaged goods, fresh produce, and labeled containers. Works best when items are visible and not stacked behind each other. Remove any misidentified ingredients before generating recipes.
Does the scanner work with my phone camera?
Yes. The scanner uses your device's camera through the browser — no app download required. Allow camera access when prompted. Works on mobile and desktop (with a webcam).
How many pantry scans can I do per day?
Premium: 15/day. Pro: 5/day. Starter: 2/day. Each photo scan counts as one use.
Can I manually add or remove ingredients after scanning?
Yes. After the scan you see a list of detected ingredients. Remove misidentified ones and add any that were missed before generating recipe suggestions.
Meal Planner
What is the Meal Planner?
The Meal Planner (Starter and above) lets you schedule meals across the week. Add any recipe — your own, community, or RecipeBot-generated — to breakfast, lunch, or dinner on any day. Day, Week, and Month views are available.
Can RecipeBot suggest a weekly meal plan for me?
Yes. Click Generate on the Meal Planner page and RecipeBot suggests a balanced week of meals based on your dietary preferences. Free users get one trial use; Starter and above get recurring daily uses.
How do I add a recipe to my meal plan?
In Day or Week view, click any meal slot (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) for a specific day. A search panel opens to pick from saved or community recipes. You can also drag and drop meals to rearrange them.
Can I see my meal plan on my phone?
Yes. The Meal Planner is fully responsive. Day view is best for mobile; Week and Month views work best on larger screens.
Does the meal planner track calories or macros?
Yes — the Nutrition dashboard shows daily and weekly totals for calories, protein, carbs, fat, and fiber, pulled from your planned meals. Available on all plans.
Grocery Lists
How do I create a grocery list?
From the Meal Planner, click Generate Grocery List. RecipeBot compiles every ingredient from your planned meals into a consolidated shopping list grouped by category (produce, dairy, pantry, etc.), with duplicates combined.
Can I edit the grocery list?
Yes. Check off items you already have, remove anything you don't need, and add custom items manually. The list saves automatically.
Can I share my grocery list?
You can view your grocery lists on any device you're signed into. Direct sharing with other users is not currently supported but is on our roadmap.
Do I need a paid plan to use grocery lists?
Grocery list generation is available on Starter and above. Free users can browse recipes but automated grocery list generation requires a paid plan.
